Brick x Brick

Circle K International’s Partnership with UNICEF
Every year the New York District board of officers votes on a project that the district will focus special attention on that service year. For the 2023-2024 service year the district board has chosen Brick x Brick as the district project.
Brick x Brick is Circle K International’s partnership with UNICEF, which the New York District will put extra focus on this year. The goal of Brick x Brick is to benefit the lives of families in the African nation of Côte d’Ivoire. UNICEF has partnered with Conceptos Plasticos factory in Côte d’Ivoire to create a recycling economy in Côte d’Ivoire by and for women. Local plastic waste and pollution will be collected and manufactured into bricks at a Conceptos Plasticos factory. These bricks will be used to build classrooms for some of the 1.6 million children – mostly girls – who are currently out of school. Circle K International’s service initiatives align with many of the goals of this project.
  1. It addresses childhood development. It supports the creation of safe, comfortable spaces for children to learn and play, which is crucial for their development.
  2. It supports environmental justice. The plastic pollution and other garbage of Côte d’Ivoire contributes to poor health conditions, especially for young children.
  3. It alleviates poverty for families. Through Brick x Brick, women will have greater access to income/ employment through self-organized recycling networks that oversee the supply chain of plastic waste collection and processing.
